NEW LONDON LEDGE LIGHTHOUSE
From 2009 to 2018, Todd & Marcia ran the Ledge Light Foundation, an all-volunteer non-profit charged with the stewardship of New London Ledge Lighthouse. The light is located a mile offshore from Groton/New London, Connecticut. The lighthouse was automated in 1987, at which time the Coast Guard no longer manned it. After celebrating Ledge Light's 100th birthday in 2009, Todd & Marcia began a serious preservation program. They were aided by many local residents, crews of submarines, and lighthouse enthusiasts. Besides restoration work, Gipstein Multi-Media created a museum inside the lighthouse, with rooms full off exhibits, a theater to show a documentary orientation film Todd created, and a gift shop Marcia launched. They also increased public tours to the lighthouse and often served as tour guides.
It was quite a project. It was very unique and overwhelming in the time and commitment it took for nearly a decade. They turned over the reins of the Foundation in 2018. Todd & Marcia left Ledge Light a lot better than they found it, and hope their hard work will continue so that this local maritime treasure can be visited and enjoyed by generations to come.
